In the absorption method, the cost of the product consists of all the variable cost summing up the fixed manufacturing costs. Fixed costs are not included in the costing of the product.2(b) I agree that Cost Volume Profit analysis is unbiased as takes the assumption that output is the only cost and revenue driver, which have a linear relationship. The assumptions in this case are simplistic in decision the decision to problems relating to fixed costs and variable costs. The assumptions can be used to facilitate the CVP analysis to give insight that is useful.Cost is relevant when, it is future oriented. It center the cash flows must arise in the future, be incremental, and have to be cash flows. In the context of capital investment appraisal, a relevant cost is a cost incurred because of the appraisal process and it may include new costs such as the cost of hiring machinery to construct a factory or additional costs in acquiring new material. Irrelevant costs are

Does NY stop and frisk reduce crime Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Does NY stop and frisking reduce crime - Term Paper Example hope that the policy on stop and frisk has been quite effective in terms of reducing crime (Mac Donald, 2012). New York is not the only city that has seek to implement the stop and frisk policy. To make the criminals feel apprehended at the time of government election in 2008, the police department of Philadelphia also implemented the same policy. A couple of years after the Mayors election, the incidence of murder was significantly reduced by up to 22% (Lamberth, 2012). state the question Does NY stop and frisk reduce crime? is not easy to answer due to the fact that the real factor that could increase or settle in the crime rate is very complex. Although Philadelphia mentioned that there was a 22% reduction in the number of reported murder, this figure does not necessarily suppose that the process of implementing the stop and frisk policy was the root cause behind the decreasing trend in murder cases. In fact, Lamberth (2012) mentioned that the state of Philadelphia was already experiencing a decrease in the number of murder cases since 2006.Up to the present time, there is no scientific evidence that can prove that the process of implementing stop and frisk policy is effective in terms of reducing crime. The fact that the black pedestrians were stopped at a rate that is 50 percent greater than their way in the residential census makes this policy develop racism and prejudism in New York (Neumeister, Hays, & Gross, 2012).Gardiner, S., & Saul, M. Ethics - End of Life Choice Essay Example for Free

Ethics End of Life Choice EssayBeing a ingredient of the hospital Ethics Committee, it is my business to make policy recommendations on end-of-life issues. Due to my intellect and reputation as a clear thinker, my ideas on this matter carry a lot of saddle with the other members of the committee. Within this paper I will make a strong and convincing strip for my position and recommendations on this topic. This paper will insure the following skepticism What, if anything, should be done to help people who are dying?First I must start off with the obvious question Is the longanimous an adult of 18 years or older who is terminally ill and of clear and well(p) mind to authorize aided death preventive? If the answer is yes, then we should follow the wishes of the uncomplaining. Ultimately, it is their body their life and they should puddle the right to choose. That being said, I do believe that guidelines should be established and followed in regularize to assure that t he welfare of the patient is the only priority.Such guidelines should be made that reflect the three states that currently have virtues in place for assisted death, which are, Oregon, Washington, and Montana. The law should include but non limited to, a capable adult who has been diagnosed, by a physician, with a terminal illness that will kill the patient within six months may entreat in writing, from his or her physician, a prescription for a deadly dose of medication for the purpose of ending the patients life. usance of the option under this law is voluntary and the patient must initiate the request.Any physician, pharmacist or healthcare provider who has moral objections may drivel to participate. The request must be confirmed by devil witnesses, at least one of whom is not related to the patient, is not entitled to any luck of the patients estate, is not the patients physician, and is not employed by a health care facility caring for the patient. After the request is ma de, another physician must contemplate the patients medical records and confirm the diagnosis. The patient must be determined to be free of a mental condition impairing judgment. If the request is authorized, the patient must abide at least thirty days and make a second oral request before the prescription may be written. The patient has a right to rescind the request at any time. Should either physician have concerns about the patients ability to make an informed decision, or feel the patients request may be motivated by depression or coercion, the patient must be referred for a psychological evaluation. The law protects doctors from liability for providing a lethal prescription for a terminally ill, competent adult in compliance with the statutes restrictions.Participation by physicians, pharmacists, and health care providers is voluntary. The law should also specify a patients decision to end his or her life shall not have an effect upon a life, health, or accident insurance or annuity policy. These physician assisted suicide guidelines are within the Death with Dignity Act. The Death with Dignity Act is the philosophical concept that a terminally ill patient should be allowed to die naturally and comfortably, rather than experience a comatose, vegetative life prolonged by mechanical support systems.Currently there are two ways of assisted suicide, one is when the patient is given a prescription medication of a fatal dose that will cause them the loose mind and die shortly after. The other, which is not legal in the United States, is known as Active Euthanasia which is a type of mercy killing in which a person who is undergoing intense suffering, and who has no practical hope of recovery is induced to death. It is also known as mercy killing.Generally, a physician performs brisk euthanasia and carries out the final-death causing act. Active euthanasia is performed entirely voluntarily, without any reservation, external persuasion, or duress, and aft er prolonged and thorough deliberation. A patient undertaking active euthanasia gives full consent to the medical procedure and chooses direct injection, to be administered by a competent medical professional, in order to end with demonstration any intolerable and hopelessly incurable suffering. My second question Is the patient an adult of 18 years or older who is suffering? In old cases some patients who are very ill do not respond to pain medications or may be suffering in other ways that make comfort impossible. In these circumstances there is a last resort therapy that can be used terminal sedation. With terminal sedation, a patient will be given medications that induce sleep or unconsciousness until such time as death occurs as a result of the primal illness or complaint. The intention with terminal sedation must be to relieve suffering only, not to cause death. These measures are often accompanied by the withholding of artificial life supports like intravenous feeding and a rtificial respiration. * * Also, the physician may use medications that cause a double affect. This has been defined in medical journals as the administration of opioids or sedative drugs with the expressed purpose of relieving pain and suffering in a dying patient. The unintended consequence may be that these medications might cause either respiratory depression or in extreme sedation, might cause to hasten a patients death. What does this mean? In the simplest terms it means that the medication required to abate suffering cannot be given without the probable result of hastening death. While this may sound vague and quasi-discomforting, it is a legal, medically accepted practice, as long as the intention is only to relieve suffering and not cause death. The death is attributed to the disease or complications of the disease, combined in some circumstances with the withdrawal of life-sustaining treatments such as intravenous liquids, nutrition, and artificial respiration. While the pa tient need not be unconscious during this process, unconsciousness is often the result. * * The last question I ask is in cases when a minor, a person under the age of 18, is either terminally ill or suffering, who has the right to make the final decisions, the parents/legal guardians, the state, or the patient?I believe that all three need to have a united decision. If one or more of the three votes differ, then neither intervention stated above may be used. These policy recommendations I have stated within this paper regarding end-of-life issues have been explained thoroughly and in detail. I have successfully made a strong and convincing case for my position and recommendations on this topic. I hope that the members of this Ethics Committee agree with my findings and support my recommendations and that my reputation as a clear and trustworthy thinking member is evident.

International Product Life Cycle Essay Example for Free

International Product Life Cycle EssayThe international product life cycle (IPLC) theory, essential and verified by economists to explain trade in a context of comparative advantage, describes the diffusion process of an innovation across national boundaries. The life cycle begins when a developed country, having a new product to satisfy consumer needs, wants to exploit its technological breakthrough by selling abroad.Other advanced nations soon start up their knowledge production facilities, and before long LDCs do the same Efficiency/comparative advantage shifts from developed countries to developing nations. Finally, advanced nations, no longer cost-effective, import products from their precedent customers. The moral of this process could be that an advanced nation becomes a victim of its own creation. IPLC theory has the potential to be a valuable framework for selling planning on a multinational basis. In this section the IPLC is examined from the marketing perspective, and marketing implications for both innovators and initiators are discussed below. Stages and Characteristics There are five distinct stages (Stage 0 through Stage 4) in the IPLC. Table below shows the major characteristics of the IPLC stages, with the United States as the developer of the innovation in question. Exhibit shows three life-cycle curves for the same innovation one for the initiating country (i. . , the United States in this instance), one for other advanced nations, and one for LDCs. For each curve, net export results when the curve is above the horizontal line if on a lower floor the horizontal line, net import results for that particular country. As the innovation moves through time, directions of all three curves change. Time is relative, because the time needed for a cycle to be completed varies from one kind of product to another.

Wake and Bake Essay Example for Free

Wake and Bake EssayIn America the custom and sell of recreational marijuana is illegal and taking seriously by authorities. Over half of the people in the USA commode or have smoked marijuana. Marijuana is a plan that can be boastful almost any(prenominal)where and can be smoke to experience relaxation. Marijuana should be legal to the people of America because this is a free country and if the suffrage is more than fifty percent that means the majority of people want it to be legal. The people of America should not hide the use of marijuana any longer. Using marijuana should not be frowned upon because it has never killed a single human being. If this drug has not killed anyone then why is it still illegal? tobacco and alcohol have killed over 555,000 people a year according to the CDC. Tobacco and alcohol be somehow legal to a of age bighearted so why cant marijuana? People need to realize that marijuana is a soft drug as to wear its harmful make fall under caffeine. You are at more risk if you have too much coffee compared to too much marijuana. Its mind blowing to think about(predicate) this because caffeine is a drug that can kill a person and it is legal and marijuana is a drug that is illegal and has never killed anyone.A stripe of kids dont know where they are getting their tummy. Drug dealers dont really care about whom they are giving drugs to either they are just in it for the money. If marijuana became legal there would be no more drug dealers and professional licensed weed distributers. People who smoke would know exactly where their product is coming from and would be dealing with people who care about their product. People will not be going to the hospitals because their weed dealer put another drug in their weed to make it weight more. The weed distributors would only sell weed to adults who are of age, just as they do with the sale of alcohol and cigarettes.Too many people now a days get put in jail for the use of marijuana. des titute people in jail for smoking pot? What were these people doing wrong? Where they disturbing the peace? Hurting anyone? No they were smoking pot to relax and they got impel in jail with real criminals who have killed people, robbed people, people who are out of their mind. Marijuana needs to become legal and people who have been put in jail because of it dont deserver to be put through that.In the end people will do what they want in this world but they will have to keep away from cops and other authority when they smoke. Washington and Colorado are the only two states in America that allow the use of recreational marijuana. This is a big step for our country and I hope other states follow in their foot steps.

Negative Aspects Of Nuclear Power Plants

Negative Aspects Of atomic Power PlantsThere atomic number 18 many different types of force out sources across the world that produce electricity in many different ways. There are methods that use the big businessman of nature, such as hydroelectric power which uses the power of water to spin a turbine, windmills that use the power of the wind to spin a generator, and solar power which uses the heat from the sun. There are too man-make methods such as power plants that burn coal, generators that burn gasoline, and plants that burn wood to use the heat from the fires to produce electricity. There is likewise nuclear power, which uses the heat from a radioactive isotope to produce electricity.Nuclear power is formed by energy harnessed from a intrinsic resource. It is produced in power plants or power put forwards. Nuclear power is efficient, uses fewer natural resources, and adds a minimal amount of pollution to the atmosphere (Wilcox 1996). In the same respects, nuclear powe r can be very knockout and produce persistent term negative effects to the environment. Radioactivity is extremely harmful, non only to the environment, but also to the people who come in contact with it. This has long made it feared by people who live around nuclear power plants and made these power plants a target for terrorists. The are at least two incidents involving nuclear power plants that had gone wrong within recent history. On April 26, 1987, Chernobyl nuclear facilitys number four nuclear reactor sustained catastrophic damage when a bend safety test went wrong. An explosion in the number four reactor spewed radioactive material miles into the air creating a radioactive situation 100 clock worse than Hiroshima. The immediate death toll was 31, while thousands will select to live with the long term effects of the radioactivity (Chernobyl accident..2011). On March 28, 1979, iii Mile Island nuclear facility experienced an overheat condition in one of their nuclear reac tors when operators noticed an increase in water flow to the reactor exceeding normal levels. They attempted to correct the problem, but only succeeded in making it worse. The incident was contained with minor exposure of radioactivity to the environment but not until after the radioactive fuel rods melted through the bottom of their HYPERLINK ../../../../../../../bio/Jennifer-Rosenberg-7900.htmcontainers. During the process some radioactivity escaped into the atmosphere (Three mile..2010).The examples of the disasters above show both the instability and erosive nature of the uracil used in nuclear power plants. Uranium and plutonium, the byproduct of nuclear fission, which is the process used to create nuclear energy, and are extremely unstable if not maintained perfectly in the correct conditions. The instability of these two radioactive elements can lead to both dangerous and destructive outcomes. As witnessed in the Three Mile Island disaster, when uranium is not properly coo led it can reach temperatures high enough to allow it to melt through its container causation the possible release of radioactive material into the environment. The outcome from the accidental release of radioactive material from a nuclear power plant into the environment is cold more destructive and long term than the release of other energy producing materials, such as coal, oil, or other fossil fuels. Clean up is also a lot more difficult and hazardous. The effects of the release of radioactive material can last several billion years and can forever and a day change the environment where it occurred. The after effects of an accidental release of fossil fuels, such as oil, from a typical power plant is far slight dangerous (Diehl 2004). The wildlife repopulates and regrows quicker from the accidental release of fossil fuels than from the accidental release of nuclear energy. This shows how nuclear energy is dangerous to the health of the environment. The mining process of uran ium for a nuclear power plant causes the same environmental effects as the mining of coal, on a smaller scale. The mining process also produces lead, a hazardous material known to cause cancer, birth defects, and other human and environmental problems. Uranium, unlike many other sources of energy, such as wind, water, and sun, is a non renewable resource. During mining, to keep ground water from entering the underground mine, uranium contaminated water is often pumped into local rivers and lakes, polluting that water as well. aft(prenominal) the mine is shut down, there is a great risk of ground water becoming contaminated. Waste rock which is rock removed from the mines that does not have enough usable material in it is removed from the mine and piled above the surface. This material usually contains higher than normal amounts of radiation. This waste rock is often turned into gravel used for cement and paving roads, spreading radioactive material across large areas (Diehl 2004). This shows how even the mining process is very destructive and dangerous to the environment. While producing fewer greenhouse gases, nuclear power can hardly be considered an efficient, effective, cleaner alternative to the production of electricity. When compared to the amount of energy produced from the burning of fossil fuels, we see that the amount of power from a nuclear power plant is lower than that created from the burning of fossil fuels. It takes far more time and resources for nuclear power to equal the production from other sources such as fossil fuels (Linnerud 2011). In the increase in demand for energy from the nuclear power plants, the green house emissions also rise with the increase in production. This shows the inefficiency of nuclear power and the increase of greenhouse pollution. This proves that the increase of nuclear power in place of fossil fuels does not provide a reduction in climate changing effects during the production of energy (Lloyd 2006).ResourcesCh ernobyl Nuclear Accident homepage on the Internet.
